Schools given money to kick-start fundraising drive - Tuesday, 15 November 2005

Secondary schools in England are to be given £500 each to start charity bank accounts, which ministers hope will promote a culture of giving among young people.

The scheme, to be announced by the Home Office tomorrow, is part of a £9m package of government measures, called A Generous Society. Pupils will be encouraged to increase the money through their own fundraising efforts and decide which charities they should donate money to.
