Government Appoints First Social Value Ambassador- 13 June 2013

Chris White, the Conservative MP for Warwick and Leamington, has been appointed as the government’s first social value ambassador. The role aims to open up more public sector contracts to voluntary organisations, social enterprises and small businesses.

Chris White government Conservative MP, who championed the Social Value Act last year, has been appointed as the government's first social value ambassador.

White MP, introduced the Public Services (Social Value) Act 2012 as a private member's bill last year. He has now been tasked to work with local authorities and the voluntary sector to raise awareness of the act, which came into force this year with cross-party support.

The aim of the act is to open up more public sector contracts to voluntary organisations, social enterprises and small businesses.

White’s role will be to encourage and oversee an improvement in the social, environmental and economic impact of public service contracts, a statement from the Cabinet Office said.
