Locality announces four-year plan for £15m government community scheme - 22 September 2011

More organisations have been selected to host the £15m government programme, which will recruit and train 5,000 community organisers over the next four years.

In February, the government chose Locality to lead its £15m Community Organisers programme, which started with 11 initial ‘kickstarters’ host organisations. The official recruitment process for host organisation began in July.

From now, new host organisations will be recruited in tranches of 10-15 every three months until 2015. Community organisers will work in local communities to encourage dialogue and help communities develop their collective power. Each organiser will be recruited and supported by a local host organisation while they undergo their 12-month training.

The new host organisations are:

  • Selby Trust in Tottenham, London;
  • The Centre for Equality & Diversity in Dudley;
  • Saffron Lane Neighbourhood Council in Leicester;
  • Re:generate, the lead training partner in the Community Organisers programme, who will build on their existing work in Bath and North East Somerset;
  • RISE Community Development Ltd and West Itchen Community Trust who will collaborate to host organisers in Southampton;
  • ETEC Development Trust in Sunderland;
  • Voluntary Action Melton in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire;
  • Granby Toxteth Development Trust in Liverpool;
  • Somers Town Community Association near Kings Cross, London;
  • Five development trusts in different parts of Bradford who will share the hosting between them;
  • High Green Development Trust in Sheffield.
