Lords reject plan to take school fees into account

The House of Lords defeat of an amendment to the Charities Bill on public benefit has offered private schools the opportunity to shelter behind "extremely unsatisfactory" case law, according to its proposer, Lord Phillips of Sudbury.

The amendment would have obliged the Charity Commission to take fees into account when assessing the public benefit provided by charities.
