European Year of Volunteering first awards announced - 11 April 2011

The umbrella body Volunteering England will receive a £78,000 grant from the fund and will be responsible for overseeing UK-based activities carried out as part of the European Year of Volunteering project, set up by the European Commission.

OCS has announced six organisations that will act as official partners under the national work programme for the European Year of Volunteering 2011.

  • V and Catch 22 - volunteering with Children and Young People;
  • Groundwork West Midlands - the Environment;
  • Arts and Business - Culture and the Arts;
  • Age UK - Health and Social Care, with a specific focus on volunteering and active ageing
  • Volunteering England - supporting the sharing of learning emerging from activity with the wider voluntary and community sector.

In addition to these roles OCS is also in the process of identifying an organisation to lead on the theme of Sport and three further partner organisations that will lead activity in relation to three areas:

  • Employer supported volunteering;
  • Opening the door to volunteering to underrepresented groups; and
  • Volunteer Management.
