Big Lottery Fund launches £75m grants scheme for buildings - 27 October 2010

Grants of between £100,000 and £500,000 will be available from early December as part of a new stream of funding under BLF's Reaching Communities programme

The Big Lottery Fund is opening a £75m community buildings grants programme for voluntary organisations and parish and town councils in England.

Funding will be available up to £750,000 per grant for all types of multi-purpose buildings used by communities, including memorial halls, community centres and village halls, specifically those that can offer a wide range of activities benefiting a broad group of citizens.

A BLF consultation carried out this year found widespread support for a dedicated stream of capital funding within the Reaching Communities programme, which supports people and projects most in need.

Sanjay Dighe, chair of the BLF’s England committee, said: "Given the economic climate, we anticipate even greater demand for this money. Competition will be intense and tough choices required."

It is unclear yet whether this funding will manifest as part of the Reaching Communities programme, or whether it will be run as a seperate stream on its own. However, organisations can now register for further information and updates by calling BLF on 0845 410 2030.
