Non-departmental public bodies under review - 27 September 2010

A document leaked by the Cabinet Office last week revealed a list of 177 non-departmental public bodies that are currently under review by the coalition government.

The list, provided by the Daily Telegraph, has not yet been confirmed by official sources. Whilst we cannot confirm any decisions made, it is important to bear in mind that the following changes may occur.

From the original list provided, the following bodies are listed as independent grant administrators on Governmentfunding:

Public bodies announced to be abolished:

  • Capacitybuilders
  • Commissioner for the Compact
  • National Endowment for Science, Technology and Arts (NESTA)
  • Office for Civil Society Advisory Bodies
  • Regional Development Agencies
  • UK Film Council

Public bodies to be merged or consolidated:

  • National Heritage Memorial Fund and National Heritage Lottery Fund
  • Sport England and UK Sport
  • Ofcom and Postcomm

Public bodies still under review:

  • Children's Workforce Development Council
  • Community Development Foundation
  • Equality and Human Rights Commission
  • Natural England
  • Young People's Learning Agency

Public bodies which will be retained:

  • Arts Council England
  • Big Lottery Fund
