Nick Hurd announced as minister for 'Office for Civil Society' -17 May 2010

Conservative Nick Hurd is to be appointed as the new charities minister for the Office for Civil Society (formerly the Office of the Third Sector, OTS).

Hurd, who spent 18 months as shadow charities minister after succeeding Greg Clark in 2008, will take over at the Office of the Third Sector in the Cabinet Office. The Conservatives said before the election that it would be renamed the Office of Civil Society.

Hurd became an MP in 2005 and this month increased his majority in the north-west London constituency of Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner, securing a majority of 19,060 over the Labour candidate.

Clark was yesterday appointed on Thursday as the minister responsible for decentralisation in the Communities and Local Government department.
