Capacitybuilders award a further 88 grants through the Modernisation Fund - 27 November 2009

Over 80 third sector organisations have been given grants to build resilience with latest Modernisation Fund grant awards.

A further 88 grants totalling nearly £850,000 have been made under the second phase of the Real Help for Communities: Modernisation Fund Grants Programme. Part of the Office of the Third Sector's Real Help for Communities plan, these latest grant awards, of up to £10,000, are being made to organisations nearing completion of their collaboration or merger plans.

Many applications have come from organisations providing training, those supporting social cohesion and those providing family support services.

The Modernisation Fund Grants Programme, which opened for application in June 2009, offered bursaries of £1,000 to third sector organisations, enabling them to explore the benefits of partnerships and collaborations in order to build resilience towards the economic recession.

Phase Two of the programme; “Know Your Needs”, is providing grants of up to £10,000 to organisations who received support under the first phase of the programme to progress their plans for collaboration or merger.

The application deadline to Phase Two closed on 9 November, attracting over 600 applications from Phase One bursary holders. An early distribution of 32 grant awards was made at the end of October and final decisions on all applications will be announced by Capacitybuilders in early December.
