New strand of national Youth Leadership Fund announced - 5 November 2009

A new strand to The Youth of Today Leadership Fund has been announced, designed for third sector organisations wishing to build their capacity and create youth leadership opportunities across England.

Funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families and administered by The Young Foundation, The Youth Leadership Fund aims to address gaps in the provision of leadership opportunities for young people and to counter the key challenges faced, including the over subscription to current schemes and the lack of access to funds and opportunities.

The 'Reaching Out' scheme is the second strand of The Youth of Today Leadership Fund to open and with a total budget of £500,000, it will provide eight organisations with grants of between £50,000 and £100,000 to deliver high quality services in the field of Youth Leadership.

This strand will support the existing 'Scaling Up' scheme from The Youth of Today Leadership Fund. The Scaling Up scheme is in its second phase of funding and is aimed at local voluntary sector groups, supporting innovative projects that increase the number and quality of youth leadership opportunities available to marginalised groups. This scheme will also distribute £500,000, in approximately 30 grants, ranging from £5,000 to £20,000.
