Home Office Safer Homes Fund announced - Thursday 9 April 2009

A new £6 million fund aiming to help vulnerable people protect themselves from burglars.

Community organisations throughout the UK will be able to apply for grants of up to £100,000 to improve safety in their local areas. The fund is available for one year, and organisations will be able to apply to the Home Office for individual grants for projects such as handy person schemes, carrying out safety checks and installing locks for elderly, disabled or vulnerable people in the community.

Three hundred grants of between £10,000 and £100,000 will be allocated to successful bidders, particularly in areas of high crime. Grants are due to become available from May.

Further information will be published on the governmentfunding website when available.
