Capacitybuilders Improving Reach winners announced - Wednesday 18 June 2008

Capacitybuilders has revealed the 72 organisations that will receive a share of more than £17m of funding to work with marginalised communities.

Third sector minister Phil Hope announced the successful bidders in the Improving Reach programme at the Capacitybuilders annual conference in Birmingham on 17 June.

Training network the Federation for Community Development Learning (opens new window) was the biggest winner, landing £450,000 over the next three years. The Tutu Foundation, set up by Desmond Tutu, will also receive £448,000 to work with underprivileged young people.

A final decision on the successful organisations was delayed earlier this year, after Capacitybuilders received more than 900 applications.

Announcing the winners, Hope said: "This funding will greatly strengthen the sector through the provision of information, advice and facilities.

"Both Capacitybuilders and the recipients of its funding have helped to create a more effective third sector by improving support for voluntary and community organisations."
