Profile: Charities put their faith in Hope, new minister for the third sector - Wednesday 4 July 2007

When Phil Hope was a junior minister in the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, he confided to a colleague that he wasn't sure he wanted to move to a different department because it would mean a narrower view of government.

In the event, he has spent the past two years as skills minister at the Department for Education and Skills, but his latest appointment as minister for the third sector in the Cabinet Office brings him back to a department with a wide policy perspective.
