'Apathetic’ charities miss out on 8 per cent extra income - November 2006

2 in 5 small charities have failed to claim back any Gift Aid over the last year, new research shows. The report, Promoting Tax-Effective Giving, has prompted the Institute of Fundraising to condemn the “apathy” of many charities with regards to Gift Aid

The research shows that as many as 39 per cent of small charities (those with a voluntary income of less than £100,000) have failed to claim back any Gift Aid over the last year. Around 70 per cent of these organisations claimed that the sums would be too insignificant to make it worthwhile – in comparison to 23 per cent of larger charities.
