Commission looks to raise £10k accounts assessment threshold - Tuesday 17 October 2006

The Charity Commission believes the £10,000 turnover threshold at which charities must have their accounts independently examined is too low, and is to consult the sector on a higher level early next year.

The consultation has been prompted by a Cabinet Office initiative to cut red tape across all organisations that deal with government departments, due to launch on 1 January 2007. The Administrative Burden Reduction Programme aims to cut form-filling amongst client groups of most Whitehall departments, by around 25 per cent by 2010.
