Schemes:

London Borough of Southwark Council has two main grant schemes for voluntary and community organisations; the Neighbourhoods Fund and Cleaner Greener Safer Grants. Funding can also be given to organisations serving the community on an ad hoc basis; this tends to be dealt with through individual departments rather than the Voluntary Sector Unit. If your project falls under a specific department, such as Adult Services or Children and Young Peoples Services, it would be best to contact this department directly. Contact details for individual departments can be found on the council's website.

The Neighbourhoods Fund

The community councils support projects that promote and improve their local area while equally bringing people from different backgrounds together.

Please note that applications for Neighbourhoods 2015 is now closed. Further information is available here.

If you would like to be added to a mailing list so that you can hear about community council news and events, as well as the new launch date for the 2016 round of funding, please email the Officer responsible for your community council area.

Cleaner, Greener, Safer Grants

Grants are available for any local organisations that are delivering work that will bring about community or environmental improvement. This funding opportunity is currently closed to applications but is expected to reopen in 2013. Further information can be found at the following link: Cleaner, Greener, Safer Grants or through contacting 020 7525 2665 or cgs@southwark.gov.uk

Commissioning Grants

The council also commission grants to voluntary sector organisations for larger pots of money. For further information on commissioning, contact 020 7525 5554 or communityengagement@southwark.gov.uk

Many local authorities are now moving away from grant-making and beginning to use commissioning as a way to distribute funding to the third sector. Local commissioners can be difficult to find and identify, however NAVCA have created a guide that may help: 'Fidning your Commissioner'

Central London CVS Network

The London Borough of Southwark Council provides a wide range of funding for voluntary sector groups, however not all opportunities are published on the website.

Information on the council's two main grant schemes was fairly easy to find and up-to-date, however making contact with the Voluntary Sector Unit was also difficult, as they are obviously a very busy department.

On the whole, staff were very helpful, cooperative and happy to take any further enquiries.

What is the DSC Funder Rating?

We need your help

Our ratings are by no means a final verdict, just a starting point to begin discussions about the voluntary sector’s experience of government funders. We are inviting all subscribers to share their experiences and contribute to the DSC Funder Rating. If you can help, please email us at ratings@governmentfunding.org.uk
