Schemes:

The London Borough of Tower Hamlets Council currently run several grant schemes for voluntary sector groups. This includes the Mainstream Grants Programme, Summer Grant Programme, the Youth Opportunity Fund, Community Chest - Innovation Fund (small grants of £500-£2,000) and the Community Chest - Capacity Building Fund (offering larger grants ranging from £2,000 - £15,000).

Please note: The scope of the Mayor Community Chest programme and Community Events initiative are currently being reviewed. While this review is being undertaken the council has decided to temporarily suspend these programmes. The outcome of the council's review of the scope of the programme will be announced shortly. In the meantime, the council will not be accepting applications for the Mayor's Community Chest and Community Event Programmes.

For further information regarding all types of funding offered by the council, please see: Tower Hamlets Community Grants.

The Tower Hamlets site also has a really useful search facility for community funding and social enterprise funding listing the different types of funding available in the area.

Many local authorities are now moving away from grant-making and beginning to use commissioning as a way to distribute funding to the third sector. Local commissioners can be difficult to find and identify, however NAVCA have created a guide that may help: 'Finding your Commissioner'

Useful organisations:

East London CVS Network

The London Borough of Tower Hamlets Council website has a specific page entitled 'Community Grants', which is dedicated to both council and external funding sources.

The information provided on this page is clear and comprehensive with some really useful fundraising tools.

In our experience staff in the council's External Funding team are also helpful.

What is the DSC Funder Rating?

We need your help

Our ratings are by no means a final verdict, just a starting point to begin discussions about the voluntary sector’s experience of government funders. We are inviting all subscribers to share their experiences and contribute to the DSC Funder Rating. If you can help, please email us at ratings@governmentfunding.org.uk
