Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council provides numerous grant programmes for voluntary sector groups:

The Stockport Fund

Smaller grants of up to £3,000 can be applied for through the Stockport Fund. This scheme will fund project costs, one off payments and start-up costs. This fund is administered by the Community Foundation for Greater Manchester on the council's behalf.

Grants are available for project costs, one off payments and start-up costs, for groups that can help meet any of the following objectives through their work:

  • older people
  • children and young people
  • safer, stronger communities
  • sustainable environment
  • physical and economic regeneration.

Stockport Council Area Flexibility Funding

Each of Stockport's 21 wards currently receive £3,000 per year to support activities of local community or voluntary groups, small projects or individuals that contribute positively to the environmental, economic or social wellbeing of people within the particular ward.

Applications are welcomed from groups/organisations for projects that will contribute to the environmental, economic or social wellbeing of the ward. For further information please contact Democratic Services on telephone number 0161 474 3216 or email

Community Rent Grants

Stockport Council offer rent grants to community or activity related groups that meet in community centres, schools or other local buildings. The grant will help these groups meet the cost of room hire and the maximum that can be applied for is £1,000.

Stockport Homes Community Fund

The Stockport Homes Community Fund enables customers to access money to help improve neighbourhoods where Stockport Homes manages properties. This fund can support a wide variety of projects that make a real difference to the lives of Stockport Homes customers and the wider community.

Any person or group interested in funding can apply providing they have a project plan and the support of a least two Stockport Homes customers. Grants are up to £1,000 per project.
