Schemes:

Salford City Council has one main grant scheme that provides funding to voluntary sector groups; Community Group Grants. This scheme has been running for over ten years and is highly unlikely to change or cease funding in the foreseeable future.

Funding through this scheme is devolved to the eight community areas of Salford, for which each community has its own budget to support local groups, which are working to meet the local Community Action Plan. Projects applying for this fund must demonstrate how the work of their group will help to meet at least one of the following areas:

  • Improving the environment
  • Improving transport
  • Education
  • Improving health
  • Strengthening the community
  • Tackling crime
  • Tackling poverty
  • Economic development
  • Supporting children and young people

For further information on this scheme and how to apply, contact the Devolved Budget Grants Team, or follow the link below, which provides further details and application forms: Community Funding

Many local authorities are now moving away from grant-making and beginning to use commissioning as a way to distribute funding to the third sector. Local commissioners can be difficult to find and identify, however NAVCA have created a guide that may help: 'Finding your Commissioner'

The information on this website relating to the Community Groups grants was fairly easy to find and understand.

The information provided was up-to-date, including a brief summary of the Community Action Plan, application forms and contact details for the programme.

Staff at the council were also very helpful and forthcoming with information.

What is the DSC Funder Rating?

We need your help

Our ratings are by no means a final verdict, just a starting point to begin discussions about the voluntary sector’s experience of government funders. We are inviting all subscribers to share their experiences and contribute to the DSC Funder Rating. If you can help, please email us at ratings@governmentfunding.org.uk.
