Community Grants

Voluntary groups and societies, clubs, not-for-profit organisations, charities operating in the islands where the benefit will be for the Isles of Scilly, schools, playschools, etc can apply. Regional or national charities are unlikely to be supported unless it is for a specific project in the Islands where there will be obvious benefit to the Council's area.

Grants are provided for capital projects, such as the purchase of equipment, works to buildings, improvements to premises. Furthermore the Council may support a community event, a festical or special event in commemoration which is held within the Isles of Scilly.

Members will have the opportunity to consider applications and will determine, on the individual merits of each application, the level of funding they will provide.

Further information can be found at the Isles of Scilly Council Website. Application forms may be downloaded at the following link. It is recommended to read the list of criteria before completing the form, and to remember to include a set of accounts and/or costings.

Many local authorities are now moving away from grant-making and beginning to use commissioning as a way to distribute funding to the third sector. Local commissioners can be difficult to find and identify, however NAVCA have created a guide that may help: 'Where is Your Commissioner?'

No details were provided about voluntary sector funding on the council website, including about the small grants programmes, or any other additional support for the third sector organisations on the website.

We advise contacting the council directly if you are looking for funding.

What is the DSC Funder Rating?

We need your help

Our ratings are by no means a final verdict, just a starting point to begin discussions about the voluntary sector’s experience of government funders. We are inviting all subscribers to share their experiences and contribute to the DSC Funder Rating. If you can help, please email us at ratings@governmentfunding.org.uk
