Schemes:

The London Borough of Enfield Council provides assistance to VCS organisations within the borough through grants and in-kind support. Although the council has a Sustainable Communities Voluntary Sector Team, as with a number of other local authorities the budget holders are based within different departments which can make the application process more difficult than it could be if a 'one-stop shop' existed.

We were advised that grants are available for education purposes, health and adult social care, and sports and recreation. The Sustainable Communities Voluntary Sector is responsible for making sure any information relating to grants from these departments is made available to VCS groups.

At present the council is not administering any grant schemes to VCS groups. However, further general information about support for the voluntary sector can be found through the following link: Voluntary Sector Support.

The council also provides in-kind support to local VCS organisations, especially minority ethnic ones, by way of free of charge 'hot desk' meeting facilities.

Many local authorities are now moving away from grant-making and beginning to use commissioning as a way to distribute funding to the third sector. Local commissioners can be difficult to find and identify, however NAVCA have created a guide that may help: "Finding your commissioner"

Voluntary Sector Funding Pages:

The website provides free access to the 'Open4Community' support funding website which gives information on various external sources of funding. See: www.open4community.info/enfield/Default.aspx

Useful organisations:

Enfield Voluntary Action: www.enfieldva.org.uk/

Enfield Community Empowerment Network: www.ecen.org.uk

This website was easy to navigate and voluntary sector funding information was also fairly easy to find, however the details provided were basic and consisted mostly of support information rather than details of grant schemes.

The website has a series of pages that are linked together around the title of 'Sustainable Communities Voluntary Sector', which include information on the local compact, voluntary sector support and the council's voluntary sector strategy group.

What is the DSC Funder Rating?

We need your help

Our ratings are by no means a final verdict, just a starting point to begin discussions about the voluntary sector’s experience of government funders. We are inviting all subscribers to share their experiences and contribute to the DSC Funder Rating. If you can help, please email us at ratings@governmentfunding.org.uk.
