Schemes:

Halton Borough Council offers two grants to community groups and voluntary organisations in order to make a positive contribution to community life.

Community Grants

There are three grants that groups can apply to, which are:

  • Starter grant (for new groups)
  • Development grant (for existing groups)
  • Youth Development Grant

Grants can be applied for online.

Voluntary Sector Core Funding

Voluntary Sector Core Funding is provided on an annual basis for voluntary and community sector organisations. Funding can be awarded in the following circumstances:

  • voluntary/community organisations whose primary purpose is working to improve the lives of people on a low income
  • community development groups, which primarily address issues relating to anti-poverty work and/or community development
  • communities of interest experiencing high levels of multiple disadvantages as identified by Halton Council.

Application forms are available annually from mid-November and the closing date is usually set around the end of December for funding to commence the following April.

For further information please refer to the council's website which provides detailed information on criteria, eligibility and the application process: Voluntary Sector Funding

Many local authorities are now moving away from grant-making and beginning to use commissioning as a way to distribute funding to the third sector. Local commissioners can be difficult to find and identify, however NAVCA have created a guide that may help: 'Where is Your Commissioner?'

Useful organisations:

Halton and St Helens Voluntary and Community Action

Voluntary grants have been incorporated with other finance grants, such as business rates. There is no dedicated voluntary sector section.

However, the information provided here is comprehensive, and includes criteria, objectives and deadlines.

What is the DSC Funder Rating?

We need your help

Our ratings are by no means a final verdict, just a starting point to begin discussions about the voluntary sector’s experience of government funders. We are inviting all subscribers to share their experiences and contribute to the DSC Funder Rating. If you can help, please email us at ratings@governmentfunding.org.uk.
