Derbyshire County Council offers a range of grants to a number of different causes.

There is a grant available to community groups in Derbyshire to assist with social care projects:

  • Holiday Playscheme Budget: the aim of this budget is to assist organisations that are involved in the provision of holidays for disabled children.

Further schemes in support of VCS organisations include:

  • Arts Development Grant
  • Community Leadership Scheme
Arts Development Grant

There are three funding schemes available - community arts grants, small arts grants and Arts Festival grants.

Community arts grants are awarded annually, whilst the Small arts grants are awarded three times a year to any organisation developing arts work in Derbyshire. They can provide funding of up to £1,000 for projects which fit into one or more of these priorities: developing new audiences and participants in arts activity; supporting arts work with disabled people; supporting arts work in rural areas; and/or, supporting the creative economy. Grants are awarded three times a year.

For further information, contact: Anne Wright, Assistant Head of Arts, 01773 832497,

Community Leadership Scheme

This provides small grants to community, voluntary, youth and other local organisations. Its aim is to support worthwhile projects and initiatives that will benefit local communities and is designed to meet one-off costs.

The scheme allocates to each of the county's 64 councillors an annual fund of around £4,000 which can be used to support projects in their ward.

It is for the local county councillor to recommend which projects should be supported under the scheme

For further information, contact: Andrea Bond, Democratic Services, 01629 538371, or Ivan Walters, Democratic Services, 01629 538328,

Further information on all of the above schemes is pulled together on the following page of the council's website: Grants and Funding

Many local authorities are now moving away from grant-making and beginning to use commissioning as a way to distribute funding to the third sector. Local commissioners can be difficult to find and identify, however NAVCA have created a guide that may help: 'Finding your Commissioner'

Voluntary Sector Funding Pages:

Access is also available to the GRANTnet service.

The council does not have a dedicated VCS unit; however information on all grant programmes and funds available is advertised on one page, including appropriate supporting documents such as application forms, guidance notes and eligibility criteria.

Enquiries regarding specific areas of funding must be directed to the named contact in the relevant department.
