Mary Hall, Senior Engagement Officer, 01325 406053,

Darlington Borough Council acknowledges the important role played by the third sector in the Darlington area and is committed to strengthening its working relationship with it. The council funds the third sector by offering discretionary rate relief to charities. It also actively supports third sector commissioning in order to ensure that third sector organisations have the opportunity to be considered for contracted work based upon the operation of an 'even playing field'.

If you require further help, training or support please do not hesitate to contact Mary Hall on or 01325 406053.

Many local authorities are now moving away from grant-making and beginning to use commissioning as a way to distribute funding to the third sector. Local commissioners can be difficult to find and identify, however NAVCA have created a guide that may help: 'Finding your Commissioner'

Voluntary Sector Funding Pages:

External Funding Information

The council works closely with eVOLution (formerly Darlington CVS) and refers those seeking advice about external sources of funding to them via a web link.

Useful organisations:

eVOLution (formerly Darlington CVS):

Darlington Council website has a specific voluntary sector funding page, entitled 'Voluntary sector (third sector) strategy', which can be located from the A-Z search facility on the home page and contains information on the external voluntary sector funding information. However, there is not much evidence of information relating to funding given by the council itself.
